City of Indianapolis Once Again Earns Top Global Recognition for Environmental Transparency, Climate Action
In 2024, only 29 US cities scored by CDP were named to the "A List"
INDIANAPOLIS -- The City of Indianapolis has been named to the 2024 CDP A List , the top status available from the largest global independent environmental disclosure system. This rating recognizes global leadership in environmental transparency, climate action, and resilience planning. Only 112 cities worldwide earned CDP's top status, including 29 U.S. cities, the most from any country. Indianapolis has disclosed environmental impact data through CDP since 2015; this is the seventh time it has received an A rating.
Earning a spot on CDP's A List is a significant achievement that reflects the highest standard of local climate leadership. To be recognized with an A, cities must publicly disclose through CDP-ICLEI Track and meet rigorous criteria--including a citywide emissions inventory, a climate risk and vulnerability assessment (CRVA), and a published climate action plan.
"With the publishing of our fifth annual report on Thrive Indianapolis last month and CDP's recognition of Indy as an A List city for the seventh time, it is clear that Indianapolis values the accountability and transparency of our environmental data," said Mo McReynolds, Director of the Indianapolis Office of Sustainability. "As city organizations work to implement increased community resilience from flooding, IndyGo's third Bus Rapid Transit line, and safer networks for pedestrians and cyclists, an A score from CDP is a sign that we are heading in the right direction."
A List cities in the U.S. are demonstrating that local leadership drives climate innovation, infrastructure investment, and economic opportunity. Transparent disclosure through CDP-ICLEI Track provides a platform for cities to track progress, engage communities, and unlock increased access to funding to accelerate solutions and strengthen long-term community resilience.
"Congratulations to Indianapolis for earning a spot on CDP's A list. Indianapolis is leading by example, by disclosing transparently how city staff is prioritizing and integrating climate resiliency and sustainability across their community," said Katie Walsh, Head of Climate Finance for Cities, States and Regions and North America Lead, CDP North America. "From investing in infrastructure to building stronger local economies and creating jobs, American local governments on CDP's 2024 A List are forging ahead on climate action."
The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability published the 2024 Thrive Annual Report on June 5, 2025 to coincide with World Environment Day. The plan, annual reports, local success stories, and dynamic goal tracking are all available at ThriveIndianapolis.com. The reports and the website are examples of public accountability that are well-received in CDP's scoring assessment.
